2007 Award recipients at the Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum on Lake George

     
Bel Canto Institute Performance Award

Recipients of this award will be presented in the following two recitals:

· One on Wednesday evening, August 13, 2008, at the Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum at Lake George, New York.

· One on Saturday afternoon, August 16, 2008, at the Gothic Chapel of the D&H Canal Museum in High Falls, New York.

Visits to Fort Ticonderoga and Mohonk Mountain House will be made, weather permitting. Housing and transportation will be provided.


Criteria for this award are performance potential, musicianship, expressiveness in the Italian language, and growth during the 2008 Bel Canto Institute Summer Program or Youth Division Summer Program.

These awards will be presented at the farewell dinner of the Bel Canto Institute 2008 program. Those who wish to be considered for this award must be available four days prior to the first recital through the evening of the second.

Bel Canto Institute
Orchestral Performance Award

The Bel Canto Institute Orchestral Performance Award will consist of two performances with the Vermont Philharmonic, a full, high quality symphony which was founded in 1959 and is Central Vermont's oldest community symphony orchestra.

These two performances will take place one weekend in October, 2008, the first on a Saturday evening and the second the following afternoon, Sunday.  One performance will be at the Barre Opera House in Barre, Vermont, the other at another venue in Central Vermont.  Rehearsal with the orchestra and Music Director Louis A. Kosma will be the Thursday evening before the first performance.   The exact dates will be available spring, 2008.  Participants interested in being considered for this award must be available from the Wednesday evening prior to  the first concert to the morning after the second.  Housing and transportation will be provided.
 
Criteria for this award are
 
• age appropriate technical proficiency;
• performance potential;
• musicianship;
• expressiveness in the use of the Italian language;
• ability to incorporate style and traditions taught during the Summer Program and Youth Division Summer Program.
 
Those who wish to be considered must have a minimum of four arias prepared
to work on during the Summer Program and Youth Division Summer Program
(Youth Division, three arias from the Early Anthology).  Ensembles may be
assigned, depending upon the recipients of the Award.
